Coming to the Cocoon
I designed the Cocoon as the perfect balance between a commercial clinic and a home-based salon. A gorgeous, professionally fitted setting with the comfort, ease, care and time-spaciousness that only a home-based space can offer. Every decision was thought through, from the pathway that you'll physically take in the space, to never using anything artificially fragranced, the lighting… everything was a choice. Many clients say it feels like time stops for the duration of their appointment. As a bonus, the street is peaceful, quieter than town, and there is always free parking available on the road.

Slow, sculpting European massage techniques across your face, neck, shoulders and scalp support circulation, encourage lymphatic flow, and soften the appearance of fine lines. Each massage is custom at each appointment, to meet you and your body where you are at.

Is every session with Amélie?
Yes. I work alone, so any service you book through me will be with me personally.
Are prices GST included?
Yes, prices are GST included, unless otherwise specified.
I suffer from allergies, can I still book?
Yes, you can. At the beginning of your appointment, I will ask about any potential allergies. I'll do my absolute best to review products and ingredients carefully and use only what's safe for you. If you'd prefer to do a patch test first, send me an email via the contact form or text/DM on Instagram and we'll book a time for you to come in and do just that.
My products contain ingredients on your No-go list, do I need to throw them out?
No. Use them up and replace them with a clean beauty option when they're finished. Over-consumption is a huge environmental issue, so we can all do our bit to minimise it. That said, if you're going through perimenopause or hormone therapy, it's worth having a conversation with your GP about your concerns.
Is there a toilet I can use?
Yes, there's a customer toilet available.
What happens if I arrive more than 15 minutes late?
Please let me know via text as soon as you can, and please drive safe, don't text and drive. If you arrive more than 15 minutes after your appointment start time, I may need to cancel the service or, at my discretion, carry out what we can in the time remaining. If you're a mum of children under 10, let me know when you book. I know how hectic getting out the door can be and I do my best to avoid back-to-back appointments so nothing gets cut short for you.
Can Amélie cancel my appointment?
Yes. If something comes up on my end, I'll notify you in writing and provide a full refund of any amounts you've paid for that service, although in 5 years of business, this has never happened yet.
Can my baby or toddler come with me to my appointment?
The Cocoon is a space for you to fully switch off, so appointments are best enjoyed child-free. If that's tricky, reach out and we'll find a time that works.
How do I book?
Appointments can be booked online with at least 24 hours' notice and up to 3 months in advance.
Is a deposit required to secure my booking?
Yes. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking, paid by credit or debit card. The remaining balance is charged following your appointment.
What payment methods are accepted?
Payments are made by credit or debit card via Stripe-supported platforms, or by a previously agreed arrangement.
Is my deposit refundable?
No. The 50% deposit is non-refundable in all circumstances.
I need to cancel my appointment. What do I do?
Please contact me as soon as possible. Here's what applies depending on your timing: - 72 hours or more before your appointment: I'll do my best to reschedule you and transfer your deposit to the new booking. No refund of the deposit is available. - Within 72 hours of your appointment: The full price of the service is charged. No refund is available. - No-show: The full price of the service is charged. No refund is available. I'm human and I do my best to be accommodating where I can, but the earlier you reach out, the more options we have.
Why is the cancellation window 72 hours?
I'm a solopreneur and all services are by appointment only. 72 hours gives me a chance to reach out to clients on my waitlist to try to fill the gap left by a cancellation.
I need to reschedule. What do I do?
Life happens. Please give me at least 72 hours' notice to reschedule. You can reschedule up to 2 times, after which the booking will be cancelled with no refund of the deposit. Rescheduled bookings are subject to availability. If you need to reschedule because you can't find childcare but your child is well, send me a text and I'll see how I can help. I know how hard it is as a mum to carve out time for yourself.
What if Amélie needs to reschedule?
If I need to move your appointment to another date and that date doesn't work for you, you can cancel in writing and I'll provide a full refund of any amounts paid. If you accept the new date, no refund applies.
Is the table heated?
Yes. There's a heating blanket on the table and I warm it to a medium setting before each session. Once you're settled, I'll check that you're comfortable. If you feel cold or too warm at any point, please let me know, you can't fully relax if your body temperature isn't right, and I promise I won't be offended.
Is the room heated?
Yes. There's a heater in the room. I feel the cold a lot, so it'll usually be warm in there.
Is there a changing room?
Yes. I provide a wrap-around spa towel with snaps and slippers. Everything is washed after each client.
Where is The Cocoon?
In Hurdon, New Plymouth. The exact address is sent to you upon booking.
What should I expect when I arrive?
I'll be ready for you. Come in, take a breath, and let the day wait outside for a bit. If it's your first visit, give yourself an extra few minutes to find parking and get settled.
Is parking available?
Yes, there is parking available on the street. Parking is free and there are always spaces available.
