FAQ

Tell me your questions, I will give you all the answers.

General

Is every session with Amélie?

Yes. I work alone, so any service you book through me will be with me personally.

Where is Amélie located?

In Hurdon, New Plymouth. Upon booking, you'll receive the exact address via email.

Are prices GST included?

Yes, prices are GST included, unless otherwise specified.

I suffer from allergies, can I still book?

Yes, you can. At the beginning of your appointment, I will ask about any potential allergies. I'll do my absolute best to review products and ingredients carefully and use only what's safe for you. If you'd prefer to do a patch test first, send me an email via the contact form or text/DM on Instagram and we'll book a time for you to come in and do just that.

My products contain ingredients on your No-go list, do I need to throw them out?

No. Use them up and replace them with a clean beauty option when they're finished. Over-consumption is a huge environmental issue, so we can all do our bit to minimise it. That said, if you're going through perimenopause or hormone therapy, it's worth having a conversation with your GP about your concerns.

Is The Cocoon wheelchair accessible?

To my deepest regret, I have to work with how the house was built. The driveway is steep and I am unsure if the toilet is large enough for a wheelchair, though a grab bar is installed. The driveway can be used as a ramp, all services take place on the same level, there's space in the main treatment room for a wheelchair to manoeuvre and the treatment table is motorized and goes quite low to the ground. If this is you, please get in touch so we can talk through how I can best provide my services for you.

Is there a toilet I can use?

Yes, there's a customer toilet available.

What happens if I arrive more than 15 minutes late?

Please let me know via text as soon as you can, and please drive safe, don't text and drive. If you arrive more than 15 minutes after your appointment start time, I may need to cancel the service or, at my discretion, carry out what we can in the time remaining. If you're a mum of children under 10, let me know when you book. I know how hectic getting out the door can be and I do my best to avoid back-to-back appointments so nothing gets cut short for you.

Can Amélie cancel my appointment?

Yes. If something comes up on my end, I'll notify you in writing and provide a full refund of any amounts you've paid for that service, although in 5 years of business, this has never happened yet.

Can my baby or toddler come with me to my appointment?

The Cocoon is a space for you to fully switch off, so appointments are best enjoyed child-free. If that's tricky, reach out and we'll find a time that works.

Booking, deposits & payments

How do I book?

Appointments can be booked online with at least 24 hours' notice and up to 3 months in advance.

Is a deposit required to secure my booking?

Yes. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking, paid by credit or debit card. The remaining balance is charged following your appointment.

What payment methods are accepted?

Payments are made by credit or debit card via Stripe-supported platforms, or by a previously agreed arrangement.

Is my deposit refundable?

No. The 50% deposit is non-refundable in all circumstances.

Cancellations & rescheduling

I need to cancel my appointment. What do I do?

Please contact me as soon as possible. Here's what applies depending on your timing: - 72 hours or more before your appointment: I'll do my best to reschedule you and transfer your deposit to the new booking. No refund of the deposit is available. - Within 72 hours of your appointment: The full price of the service is charged. No refund is available. - No-show: The full price of the service is charged. No refund is available. I'm human and I do my best to be accommodating where I can, but the earlier you reach out, the more options we have.

Why is the cancellation window 72 hours?

I'm a solopreneur and all services are by appointment only. 72 hours gives me a chance to reach out to clients on my waitlist to try to fill the gap left by a cancellation.

I need to reschedule. What do I do?

Life happens. Please give me at least 72 hours' notice to reschedule. You can reschedule up to 2 times, after which the booking will be cancelled with no refund of the deposit. Rescheduled bookings are subject to availability. If you need to reschedule because you can't find childcare but your child is well, send me a text and I'll see how I can help. I know how hard it is as a mum to carve out time for yourself.

What if Amélie needs to reschedule?

If I need to move your appointment to another date and that date doesn't work for you, you can cancel in writing and I'll provide a full refund of any amounts paid. If you accept the new date, no refund applies.

I booked a virtual session. What's the refund policy?

Virtual bookings are non-refundable once the session has started.

Skin

What should I bring to my first skincare routine design session?

Bring your existing skincare. The confirmation email will remind you, but bringing what you currently use allows me to see whether it matches your skin's actual needs after I've done your skin analysis. It also gives me a sense of the textures you like, how much time you allocate to your routine, and where things might be working against you without you knowing.

Can I bring my own skincare products?

Yes, you can. I'll take photos/write the name down of your products and flag anything in your follow-up if need be and I'll suggest clean beauty alternatives for when you run out and need to repurchase.

My skincare contains ingredients on your No-go list, can I still bring it?

Yes. In your follow-up, I'll flag any ingredients worth considering and suggest alternatives when it's time to repurchase.

Is the table heated?

Yes. There's a heating blanket on the table and I warm it to a medium setting before each session. Once you're settled, I'll check that you're comfortable. If you feel cold or too warm at any point, please let me know, you can't fully relax if your body temperature isn't right, and I promise I won't be offended.

Is the room heated?

Yes. There's a heater in the room. I feel the cold a lot, so it'll usually be warm in there.

Is there a changing room?

Yes. I provide a wrap-around spa towel with snaps and slippers. Everything is washed after each client.

Makeup

Why is the makeup experience spread over two sessions or more?

Experience has shown me that you have more questions than you think, about your skin, skincare, and makeup, and one session isn't enough time to give them the attention they deserve. I also know that after your lesson, things feel manageable in the moment, and then the real questions come up when you're standing alone in front of your mirror. Splitting it over two sessions gives us space to go deep on the design of your makeup, then come back to learn the makeup with your questions ready. You get time to practise during the session too, with me right there to guide you.

Is it really worth it?

Every client I've worked with has told me it was worth the investment and that they wished they'd had something like this when they first started experimenting with beauty. I'll let them speak for themselves.

What do I need to bring to my makeup session?

Bring your makeup bag and your clean makeup brushes if you own any. The confirmation email will remind you. More than likely, you already own items that work really well, and I can show you how to get the most out of what you have. In your follow-up, I'll recommend clean beauty alternatives for when you run out.

What if I don't like the look during the demo?

There's dedicated time to adjust, and I check in throughout the session to make sure you're happy with shapes, colours, and finishes. If something isn't working for you, say so. This is about what you love on yourself, not what I think looks good.

Can I bring my own makeup?

Yes. I'll photograph your products and suggest clean beauty alternatives in your follow-up when it's time to repurchase.

My makeup contains ingredients on your No-go list, can I still bring it?

Yes. For makeup services, I'll use your products with a brush.

Confidence coaching

What is confidence coaching and how is it different from therapy?

Confidence coaching is forward-focused. We're not diagnosing or unpacking your past for the sake of it, we're looking at where you are right now, what's in the way, and what needs to shift for you to move forward feeling more like yourself. I'm not a therapist and I don't work as one. What I do is blend somatic awareness, nervous system regulation, and practical coaching tools to help you reconnect with who you actually are underneath the performance and the pressure.

Do I need to be in crisis to book?

Not at all. Most of the women I work with are functioning well from the outside. They're however exhausted by how much energy it takes to keep up with a version of themselves that doesn't quite fit anymore. You don't need to be falling apart to deserve support.

What does a confidence coaching session actually look like?

It depends on where you are and what's alive for you. Some sessions are conversational. Some include somatic or breath-based elements. Some involve practical tools you can take away and use the same day. I always follow what's most useful for you, not a fixed script.

Do I need any experience with somatic work?

None at all. I'll guide you through everything. All you need to do is show up.

Is this available in-person or online?

Both. In-person sessions take place at The Cocoon in Hurdon, New Plymouth. Online sessions are available via video call.

Online sessions

Which services are available online?

Skin, makeup, confidence coaching and nervous system regulation sessions are available online. Hands-on massage and facial services require an in-person appointment.

How do online sessions work?

Once you book, you'll receive a confirmation with everything you need to prepare, including the video call link. Sessions run the same way as in-person coaching sessions, the only difference is you're in your own space, which a lot of clients actually find easier. For the makeup sessions, we meet at least twice, so that you can have ordered the products and then I visually guide you through it. For skin analysis, you send me photos prior to your session so that I can conduct a skin analysis based on your photos.

Do I need any special equipment?

No. Just a reliable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone, and a space where you feel comfortable and won't be interrupted.

What if the connection drops during our session?

It happens sometimes. If we lose connection, I'll reach out via text or email immediately and we'll either reconnect or arrange a time to pick up where we left off.

Are online sessions recorded?

Only group sessions where a replay was promised will be recorded. Where sessions are recorded, I'll share a link to the recording via a website-based platform. I do my best to keep recordings available for an extended period, but I can't guarantee availability indefinitely, as recordings may be removed by the platform or by me at any time. Please also note that online recordings are not private or secure, and by participating you acknowledge that recordings may potentially be accessed by third parties.

In-person sessions

Where is The Cocoon?

In Hurdon, New Plymouth. The exact address is sent to you upon booking.

What should I expect when I arrive?

I'll be ready for you. Come in, take a breath, and let the day wait outside for a bit. If it's your first visit, give yourself an extra few minutes to find parking and get settled.

Is parking available?

Yes, there is parking available on the street. Parking is free and there are always spaces available.

Is the space accessible?

Please see the wheelchair accessibility question in the General section above. If you have any access requirements, reach out before booking so we can figure out the best way to make it work for you.

Packages

What packages are available?

Packages are available for almost all of the services. Please look at each service page or get in touch with me via DM or email if you are interested and unsure which package would be the best for you.

What's included in a package?

A set number of sessions over an agreed period. Some include gifted access to the Bubble membership for the duration of your package.

Do I need to have had a casual appointment first?

Yes. Before moving into a package, I require at least one casual appointment so we can meet, I can assess your needs properly, and we can both feel confident we're a good fit.

How far in advance can I book package appointments?

Package appointments can be booked up to 12 months in advance and must be booked at least 7 days ahead of your preferred date.

Can I reschedule a package appointment?

Yes, with at least 24 hours' notice. Any changes or cancellations made within 24 hours will count as a used session and be deducted from your total.

What happens to unused sessions at the end of my package?

Unused sessions expire at the end of your package period and are not refunded or carried over. This is why we pre-book all of your sessions when you sign your package to avoid you forgetting about booking them in.

Can I pause my package?

Yes. Package appointments and associated payment plan instalments can be paused for up to 6 weeks in total during your package term, on written request and approval. During an approved pause, sessions won't be delivered, your package duration will be extended by the length of the pause, and any deferred instalments will be collected at the end of your original payment plan. The total price of your package remains unchanged.

What if I want to cancel my package early?

If you request to end your package before the agreed minimum term, you remain liable for the full minimum contract amount. Any unpaid balance becomes immediately due. Please reach out as early as possible and we'll talk through the situation together.

Is there a payment plan available?

Yes. Payment plans are set up at the time of signing your package agreement, via credit or debit card on a Stripe-supported platform. Weekly payments are the standard option, with other intervals available on request.

What happens if a payment fails?

I'll notify you if a scheduled payment doesn't go through. Access to services may be suspended until the payment is brought up to date. Your payment obligations remain in place regardless of any suspension.

Can I gift a package?

Absolutely. Get in touch via the contact form and I'll help you organise it.
